The Project
Following October 7th, I joined the IDF Home Front Command to address a critical design crisis. The unit was producing hundreds of hours of content with minimal user engagement. Multiple design teams working across different platforms created inconsistent visual experiences, making it impossible for citizens to distinguish between official emergency communications and unauthorized sources during life-threatening situations.
I developed a comprehensive brand strategy including a design system, brand guidelines, and unified communication framework. The goal was to create a cohesive ecosystem where all emergency platforms would deliver consistent, trustworthy experiences that citizens could immediately recognize as official government communications.
Infrastructure and Design Guide
I built a comprehensive atomic design system to standardize all visual communications across websites, mobile apps, graphics, and multimedia content. This system ensured consistency and scalability for both current platforms and future emergency communication tools.
National Emergency Site
We identified the national emergency website as our highest-impact opportunity. Despite receiving millions of daily visitors and containing critical life-saving information, the site had poor user engagement and content discoverability. Users couldn't find essential emergency guidance when they needed it most.
Objective
Our primary goals were to make life-saving content easily accessible to millions of daily users and create a direct alert communication system. Citizens needed immediate access to emergency instructions and real-time incident information during crisis situations.
Methodology
Given the high-stakes nature of emergency communications, we conducted extensive user research before development. We analyzed user demographics, emotional states during crisis situations, and behavioral triggers to understand how people access critical information under stress.

carousel
To answer the first need, we created an animated multimedia carousel that will attract the attention of users and put them in a visual feed simulating social media with a relevant agenda. We made sure to insert this feature on every relevant page and especially on the pages with the most traffic. Placing it within the first fold was a priority.
crisis management page
As for the second goal, we created a crisis management page that automatically opens event starts. This page will be sent to the relevant users as a link in a location-based SMS message.In addition, we rearranged the content and its accessibility, taking into account all the needs of the unit and the users.
The site is currently being developed and will go live during 2026
National Alert APP
Following Operation Rising Lion, I led the complete redesign of the national alert app serving 5M+ users. Through comprehensive user surveys, I identified critical pain points during emergency scenarios and translated insights into UX/UI improvements that enhanced clarity, accessibility, and user trust during high-stress situations.
I redesigned notifications with clear icons and precise text for instant alert comprehension. For current location alerts, I created a live activity notification. For other areas, I grouped alerts in stacks with updated icons. Audio alerts now provide condensed voice announcements like "Kfar Saba - Enter protected space - rocket fire."

I added clear current status indicators to the main screen, displaying prominent messages showing whether alerts are active or resolved - such as "Safe to exit." I integrated visual elements from the notification system to create consistency and guide users through understanding their current safety status.

Option to activate customized modes such as "Sleeping in a shelter" which silences alerts and turns off critical notifications until the next morning, or "Sabbath Mode" which prevents the phone from turning off and activates audible alerts along with a special screen focus that is optimized for the situation.

I designed customized alert modes for different user scenarios. "Sleeping in a shelter" mode silences all alerts until the next morning. "Sabbath Mode" keeps the phone active with optimized audible alerts and specialized screen displays for users observing religious restrictions.
